Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero will spend Monday night in police cell pending a ruling on his bail application on Tuesday afternoon. Kidero alongside 15 others are accused of defrauding the Nairobi County Government of Ksh.58 million through unlawful payments to a law firm trading as Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi & Company Advocates. Appearing at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, they were charged with abuse of office, money laundering, conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, unlawful acquisition of public property and dealing with suspect property. The former Governor and his co-accused, who have been in custody since their arrest on Friday, April 26, denied the charges and urged the court to release them on ‘reasonable’ bail terms. The court directed they be remanded at Kilimani Police Station pending the bail ruling. The co-accused include; John Ndirangu Kariuki (former Nairobi Mayor), Paul Mutunga Mutungi (former Councillor) and George Wainaina Njogu (former Nairobi County Government Chief of Staff). Others are Manaseeh Karanja Kepha, Philomena Kavinya Nzuki, Ng’ang’a Mungai Ng’ang’a, Charity Murngo Ndiritu, Peterson Andrew Njiru, Ekaya Alumasi Ghonzour, James Mimi Mbugua, Elzabeth Wanjiru Nderitu, Alice Njeri Mundia, Hannah Muthoni Kariuki and John Ngari Wainaina.
