The 28-year-old woman from Sisokhe Village, Kakamega County, who last month delivered five babies died on Sunday in hospital. Evelyn Namukhula reportedly complained of chest pains at around 10pm Saturday night before succumbing hours later at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) where she was admitted with her quintuplets. Ms. Namukhula sprung to the limelight when she gave birth to three girls and two boys through a Caesarean Section at Kakamega General Hospital on March 13, 2019. She was later transferred to MTRH in Eldoret after one of the babies developed complications. “My baby had trouble breathing and doctors at the Kakamega General Hospital decided to move us here (MTRH) so that the baby could get the help he needs,” she previously told Citizen Digital. MTRH CEO Dr. Wilson Arwasa said five ambulances were used to separately transport the babies, adding that their temperatures were still – however – very low on arrival but were later stabilised. The medical practitioners further noted that the smallest of the babies weighed 840 grams at birth, which was way below the average of 3.5kgs. The deceased and her husband, Herbert Wawire, have four other children and lived in Sisokhe Village, Navakholo Constituency. Two babies out of 5 delivered by Kakamega woman also deadSpeaking to Citizen Digital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa said the two baby boys were “very sick” when they were admitted to the hospital from Kakamega General Hospital where they were born. “There were five babies but the two boys were very sick and have also died. But the 3 girls are okay and growing well,” said Dr. Aruasa. On the death of the children’s mother, Dr. Aruasa said the woman succumbed to chest complications on Sunday at the MTRH where she had been admitted. He added that tests conducted on Ms. Namukhula before her death showed that her heart as well as lungs were enlarged by fluids around them. “She had been very well until this morning (Sunday) when she complained that she was having difficulty in breathing with some headache also. So the doctor who was on duty put her on treatment for blood clotting and antibiotics and then ordered for tests to confirm what the problem was,” said the hospital boss. Story by Citizen TV Kenya
